Have you ever thought of doing a photo workshop with Scottish animals in Umbria? Come to UmbriaHighland and discover a Scottish environment in central Italy! Our farm raises, in a semi-wild state, about twenty Scottish cows of the Highland breed (the so-called Highland Cow where you can obviously also find the "Highland Cattle"). The original name of these cows is literally Heilan Coo.

How long does the photo workshop last and how does it take place?

Our prototype Workshop begins with a meeting at the structure at 17.00 where we will welcome you with a very small welcome aperitif with our typical local products at km0.

We continue with the move to the breeding area after a few minutes to get to know our cows up close. They are definitely docile and are very "tame" but this does not mean that we can make noises or activities that are too noisy, so, during the visit, the group will always be accompanied by our staff. The visit inside the farm will continue until sunset, when you can take some truly scenic photos.

Attention, the times indicated are for the summer period, in winter the program will be adapted to the timing of the sun, so don't worry and the sunset lights are always available (weather permitting).

Then we proceed with dinner inside the common room of our farmhouse. The products of the dinner are always local and seasonal products, in any case it will be possible to have an advance menu when booking.

The next morning, with the first light of dawn we will wake you up to take you to discover the most interesting part of the farm: when we go to say good morning to our herd. The photographic activity will be decidedly different as the warm colors of the setting sun will be replaced by the first morning frost. If this activity is done in winter, remember a scarf and hat!

At the end of this session, a farmer's breakfast awaits you!

Before checking out, you will be able to take some last photos of the cows as they graze peacefully in their pen.

Where are we

The farm and agritourism are located in Poggioprimocaso, in the municipality of Cascia, about 40 minutes from Spoleto, 15 minutes from Norcia and 10 minutes from Cascia.

Costs

The activity has a booking fee for stay, aperitif, dinner and sweet and savory breakfast, 3 visits of about 30 minutes to the farm, stay in the rooms (check availability for the group in advance).

The price is different depending on the number of participants.

It starts from Euro 200 for 1 person, up to a maximum cost for the whole group of 12 people equal to 1000 euros.

The payment includes a deposit of 50% to be paid by BANK TRANSFER.

Please note: if you book in a group, you will be given rooms that are not configured for single use. The property has double, triple and quadruple rooms. If you would like single rooms, please contact us for an ad hoc price.

A safari in the Highlands and a dive into the real life of the farm

One of the most unique experiences offered by the company is the Highland safari, a unique activity in Umbria that allows you to get close to the herd of Scottish cows raised by Sabrina. During the guided tour – always led by her personally – you walk inside the company grounds, closely observing these fascinating creatures, with their long fur and curious gaze. It is a suggestive, educational experience suitable for adults and children, designed for those who want to learn about the agricultural world in a direct and authentic way. It is not just an attraction: it is an opportunity to understand the value of peasant work, biodiversity and respect for animals. Those who stay at the agriturismo have privileged access to this activity and can experience the countryside not only as a backdrop, but as the protagonist of the trip. Today in Poggioprimocaso is a special day: a new Highland calf was born!
I am so happy – every new birth is a huge emotion here at the company. The mother was very good and the little one is doing great, even if she is still a little wobbly on her legs.

Those who know me know how much I love this breed: they are wonderful animals, sweet, rustic and incredibly affectionate. Seeing a new one being born is always a little magic.

It doesn't have a name yet... but I'm thinking about it! In the meantime I enjoy her with cuddles and photos, because she is already a star.
