🌱 The philosophy of the project
The Umbria Highland farm has clear and authentic objectives:
- Protection of animal welfare: ethical and harmonious breeding.
- Environmental education: educational experiences and activities to get to know the territory in a conscious way.
- Enhancement of inland areas: giving new life to territories that are often forgotten.
- Landscape care: recovery of pastures, conservation of local biodiversity.
- Sustainable tourism: hospitality on a human scale, far from intrusive tourist flows.
UmbriaHighland was born in the rolling Umbrian hills, in Poggioprimocaso, a small corner of paradise between Spoleto, Cascia and Norcia, where nature still dictates its rhythms and the peasant tradition is a living part of the present.
We are a family-run farm, active since May 2023, and we passionately breed a herd of about 22 Highland cows, iconic for their proud and rustic appearance, but docile and well integrated into our ecosystem.
In addition to breeding, we cultivate cereals and legumes typical of the area with environmentally friendly methods: lentils, barley, spelt and wheat, carrying out a small but genuine agricultural supply chain.
Alongside our agricultural activity, we have also opened our doors to those looking for an authentic stay in Umbria. This is how our Agriturismo da MammaMimma was born, a bed & breakfast open all year round, where we welcome travelers, walkers and cyclists who cross the paths and scenic roads of this wonderful land.
Here you can stay in a family environment, with breakfast always included, both sweet and savory, prepared with local products and options for all tastes: vegan, gluten-free, with homemade cakes, pies, croissants, fresh cheeses, cold cuts and bread. On request, we also offer half board or full board, which can be paid comfortably on site.
The company is led by Sabrina Ranucci, together with her entire family, custodians of this land for generations. We live and work here, in Poggioprimocaso, with love and dedication, ready to share with you the authenticity of the truest Umbria.
Whether you are looking for a regenerating break, a foothold for your excursion or simply a place to feel at home, UmbriaHighland is waiting for you.
Come and meet us, the door is always open.
🏡 The agritourism experience: a house in the mountains
"Da MammaMimma" is not just a farmhouse, it is a family that welcomes. Guests are naturally involved in rural life:
- you visit the stable and get to know the animals (the Highland cows),
- you participate in creative or agricultural workshops,
- The mountain is discovered not as a background, but as a life companion.
Here the idea of slow, educational and regenerative tourism is cultivated, aimed at those who want to reconnect with the land and themselves.
🥾 What to do in the area: between nature, spirituality and trails
- Trekking and walking: marked paths, perfect for excursions through woods and ridges (also ideal for families).
- Cascia (10 km): spirituality and history with the Basilica of Santa Rita.
- Norcia (15 km): cultural capital of the Apennines and starting point for the Sibillini Mountains.
- Other very close destinations are Spoleto, Castelluccio di Norcia and Sellano.
- Rural experiences: from the care of the vegetable gardens to the discovery of wild herbs, up to the daily life of the farm.
- Authentic experiences: in search of what is our treasure hidden in the woods, that is the black truffle of Norcia!
- The mountain routine: participate with us in the preparation of fresh pasta, desserts and many products made at km0 for everyday cooking.
🧭 Travel to us and discover our reality
Umbria Highland is a project of heart and land, which combines responsible breeding, natural agriculture and authentic hospitality in one of the most unspoiled corners of Umbria. It is the ideal place for those looking for a real break, where the silence of the pastures, the sweetness of the animals and the beauty of the mountains teach you to live slowly and consciously.
